Welcome to Capricorn Season!
Capricorn Season Astrology
Welcome to Winter Wonderland! I mean Capricorn Season (shout out to Heru, Jesus an’ ’em!). The Sun enters the sign of the sea goat on December 21, 2023 marking the winter solstice. This particular Cap season is a little more chaotic than earth energy would normally have it due to Mercury being retrograde from December 13 – New Years Day. Mars will be transiting Sagittarius through the end of the year while Venus will leave Scorpio to enter Sagittarius just as this season begins (Dec. 23).
Using the planetary energies wisely this cycle is going to look like staying practical in the midst of confusion, chaos, and possibly combat. The Sagittarius new moon takes place on December 12 and the Cancer full moon is gonna catch us right in the feels on Boxing Day, just as we’re getting fed up with our and everyone else’s leftovers.
You can check out the rest of the astrology as it plays out at Astreaux & Woo YouTube channel or right here on K-Woo.com where I explain the aspects playing out for each day.

Collective Outlook
December 21, 2023 – January 20, 2024
We enter the season of Cardinal Earth looking for intimacy, peace, compassion, and for many, forgiveness. Accordingly, there’s a notable increase in water energy than in the past few months. The “Black Tales Tarot” positions it as the focus and end goal for this period. Nevertheless, it may be difficult to remain heart centered. The cards suggest many of us are more inclined to retreat or work alone than put ourselves out there. It’s no wonder, though. It’s impossible to totally eliminate the chances of getting hurt while dealing with other people. Despite this, as humans, we are wired for connection. As such, it’s important to contemplate just how satisfying living in a vacuum can be in the longer term and reconsider stepping back out into the world at large.
Interestingly, the collective ideal is the Ace of Cups, a new beginning emotionally or a renewal of what was once fulfilling for some. Regardless of our intent, though, the problem is the 4 swords. So, many of us likely require just a little more time to heal and contemplate what wholeness will look like moving forward. This card is about the stillness required to transcend a painful engagement. Still, duty calls and we must face the obligations we have toward ourselves and others in a practical way. The collective’s energy card is the tarot’s Page of Wands. Seeking this Ace, we’re ready to start something new that feels good and we’re not afraid of a little action. In fact, despite the temptation to remain in stasis, it seems the collective’s compelled from within to take initiative.
Even with our desire to get started, the collective displays an inclination to move discreetly through the High Priestess. Intuitively, most of us are aware how important it is to protect our heart spaces and the connections we hold dear. Too, not everything we know is meant to be verbalized. No casting your pearls before swine, folks! Experience has also taught us that our self-regard is vital to sustaining healthy bonds. Alternatively, we must also value the vulnerability of those who share themselves with us. Wealth is usually not that satisfying when there’s no one to share it with. That’s the common ground all 2 cards in tarot stand upon.
What’s Gone & Going
Previously, (as in Scorpio Season), we were knee-deep in ego battles ready to vent our frustrations at whoever got in the way of our goals. The 7 of Wands as a past energy suggests we’ve come through a great majority of our conflicts and difficulties successfully, though. There’s a marked increase in confidence and openness to creative ways of approaching a problem. Consequently, most have fully emerged out of Sagittarius Season’s 6 of Wands energy where many of us gained notoriety for our efforts. Now, we’re leaving behind expectations of opposition and the defensiveness it compels. The desire to seek out an audience wanes also.
In fact, this season’s tarot indicates that we’re less inclined to worry about what others are doing or self-isolate. It’s ‘balance, as all things should be’. The Hermit suggests we’ve done most of the internal work required of us to bring about a new beginning. Looking inward for solutions, applying our will in practical ways, and seeking solitude for clarity will continue to be important. However, we’re now being called by the cards to step out in the world and let folks see who we are at the core. Let your actions be your truth.
What emerges
As we acclimate ourselves to new circumstances and identify new goals and desires, we find examples around us of practical manifestation and how to keep our self-worth intact. This zodiac year has proven to be a course in how to embody our true selves even as we continue to learn more and more about who we are and the world around us. The 9 of Pentacles suggest those around us are learning the art of self-fulfillment alongside us. As a result of bearing witness to and having our own growth witnessed, the collective gains the confidence to live out intentions. Then, it becomes far easier to recognize those with shared values.
Lastly, acting out our self-definition and striving for steady, positive change doesn’t just bring a cute look in the mirror for most of us, but an improvement to material experience. As we start to apply our energy to clarifying our values and practically acting on them, our embodied self-worth (a high vibe Capricorn energy) attracts those aligned with the same. The reward? An emotionally and financially stable connection or an opportunity to build legacy wealth, possibly through creative means or personal hobbies. Is there more we could ask for in this short while? Probably, but it’s likely better to thank the gift horse and ride it.
Other Aspects to Consider during Capricorn Season …
**One of my favorite readers, Musician Johnette Napolitano is bringing back her tarot readings! Also, check out her album “Exquisite Corpses” and get updates on her other music and content at www.JohnetteNapolitano.net
- The past and problem cards are strongly suggestive of someone recovering from the exhaustion of hypervigilance or prolonged microaggressions. Having moved through it couldn’t have been easy for most of us. So, for many physical rest may be absolutely necessary before we try to move quickly into the new, regardless of our desires.
- The King of Swords as representative of the emotions can mean we may be intellectualizing our feelings so as not to be overcome by them. With the High Priestess as the approach, it may prove easier to silently strategize. How might you channel emotions into decisive action? Consider seriously how you might have more success using action as communication rather than our words.
- We have Aces for both the Ideal & Incoming tarot. Capricorn Season brings the new year, the new light, and hopefully new ways of bossing up for each of us. We might have to channel the wands confidence, motivation, and be about that action if we want to get a little deeper into someone else’s cup.
- We move out of the Hermit energy as this season progresses and end up in the 10 of Pentacles. We’ve learned to remain grounded as we connect, collaborate, and share foundational knowledge and resources with others. In return, we experience an abundance that’s worthy of our hearts as much as our ambitions. Mercury’s direct station will definitely show us where more money is due where our mouth is.
