Feeling Our Way Toward Grounded Progress

Summer is summering, the heat is high, the emotional waters are running higher. And now, we’re collectively being called to lean into our heart spaces. New emotional experiences are available, provided we practice maturity, avoid projection and manipulation, and act in accordance with the values that are proven to last. The new moon in cancer 2024 is a clear reminder that channeling our emotions in practical ways is the way to ensure forward movement and success.

New Moon in Cancer 2024 Aspects

Hard Aspects

Interestingly, this new moon is only aspecting the malefics. There is a trine to Saturn and a sextile mars. Thankfully, these are aspects of ease. Further, the moon is domiciled, and therefore comfortable in its position. We’ll notice the effects will seem immediate (in true cardinal fashion) but have an impact throughout the month. It may be difficult to express the full intensity of our feelings or our desire to connect as Saturn presides over restrictions and limitations. Because this is cardinal energy, we’re essentially being asked to act out what we find difficult to verbalize. 

Cancer is as much concerned with responsibility as it’s opposite, Capricorn. Therefore, we need to act in accordance with our needs and desires surrounding emotional connection and security. Do not project your feelings onto a situation or relationship. Rather, try to align your behaviors with those feelings that stand the test of time. This is where the authentic alignment available with this lunation truly takes place.  

The sextile to Mars, on the other hand, suggests that collectively, we’re feeling compelled to take initiative in our Taurus houses that fosters stable foundations and brings comfort to the Cancer areas of our chart. It’s certainly not going to be easy, but Mars isn’t getting any harsh aspects. So, if we’re embodying emotional maturity and working in ways that reflect our values, we are free to exert our will and can expect positive results. 

Other Planetary Movement

In the background, Venus is in a loose trine to Neptune and sextile to Uranus. She’s also squaring Chiron and getting a nice sextile from Mars who’s also in Taurus. So, in this case we are inclined to seek out that which exists outside our norm. Most will find it much easier to balance our need to connect with our desire to assert our identity. However, Uranus brings the unexpected to the forefront as much as highlighting that which is uniquely beautiful or valuable in our lives. You’ll be noticing new attributes of self and those around you as we all enjoy socializing. Be sure to take note!

Neptune on the other hand is about transcendence, engaging spirit, and imagination.  If you’re at all inclined or suddenly inspired, this is a great time to engage various art forms. In fact, doing so can also prove lucrative financially in some cases. Express yourself! Additionally, the aspects to Chiron suggest that expressing painful experiences by creative means will have a cathartic effect. That’s especially true for the way we embody our values and experience love relationships and material abundance.

Meanwhile, Mercury is also approaching a sextile to Jupiter who’s gotten comfortable in mutable air.  Here’s where we start getting real philosophical about the larger picture of our lives. It’s time to consider what we wish the future to look like in light of what we’ve learned about ourselves and others.

Too, we’re looking at redefined values due to Venus being hit from so many angles. This is a great time to plan, but not so much to meet obligations or handle important tasks. This is a time for observation, processing, and integration of what is emerging. Our quest for self-knowledge hits a turning point now, so save decisions for when things are clearer. Take note, Mercury will station retrograde early August, but it’s shadow period begins on July 16th at 21°24′ Leo ♌. If you’re wanting to initiate the plan, the best period is on or after Venus exacts its trine to Neptune and before Mercury enters its shadow.

Finally, this new moon also shows Lilith making a trine aspect to Pluto, who’s retrograde in Aquarius.  This is about purging inauthenticity as much as finding a true sense of belonging. How do we do this with such potent and powerful but also potentially painful planets? We practice self acceptance, especially of the parts of ourselves we feel are often rejected. Put them out for people to see (Venus is making it easier and more rewarding now.) and you’ll be surprised to find new tribe more aligned with who you know yourself to be.

Closing notes & guidance

Basically, Cancer season has been and will continue to be intensely emotional. But, there’s so much opportunity, for growth, healing, and increased regard for self and other if we lean fully into the knew and accept that facing the unknown and uncertain is all part of the process. Allow yourself and others grace to deal with the uncomfortable or unexpected.
